Feeling strongly it is a timeline for PREPAREDNESS, although we have been urging for it for a very long time. I think more Americans are more prepared in advance than the British population that apart from saving financially (those that can afford to do so) don't prepare much at all.
This forum made for us in advance was an act of PREPAREDNESS and we have our Admin to thank for it - preparing a space ahead of time and for the possible eventuality. One of my motto's has always been don't put all of your eggs in one basket.
Our local councils in the UK don't even have enough snow ploughs in the wintertime to clear the snow, fast enough, yet, they're putting public money into by electric vehicles that are combustible. Who is going to pay for those vans, trucks and buses when they explode, what about the lives of people that can go up in flames due to their brainwashed brains about the so-called "Climate Emergency". Plus the mass of e-scooters and bikes laying around, the drug dealers like their ease of use in the UK.
Then there is their reliance on electronic banking systems. Numerous times in recent weeks shops and stores were unable to take debit cards due to their systems being down. Same today, I had to pay cash to the dog groomer for his groom or do a transfer. Fortunately, I had enough cash on me. My concern about the current banking system has always been that our countries are vulnerable when the banking system to reliant upon it. Any country with good space apparatus could blow up the whole banking system. Then what?
If you have any thoughts on PREPAREDNESS or lack of it, you might like to post it on this thread.

Prep more than you think you need to.
An easy on the gas scooter might be a good thing ~ we don't use them much over here (cept in the metro areas) as most ot suburbia is a good drive from work/shopping/etc..

I keep around $500 here at the house just in case things shut down. We’ve got some survival foods (canned chicken, tuna, rice, beans, noodles, etc) but it would last only about 3 to 4 weeks. I have no extra pet food saved. There’s a few cases of bottled water in the basement. It’s not enough for long term survival. At one time several years ago I had enough stuff for a year but as time went on we used stuff that was getting old and never replaced it. So, I’m not really prepared for the end of our good times.

In the UK, the e.scooters and e.bikes are to replace people using their cars, they plan on people walking, taking a bus, cycle or e.scooter/e.bike and restricting people to 15minute cities.

I have enough food for 3-4 months and usually stock up pre winter time, keep trying to save up some cash at home, but I find I keep on having to use it due to the electronic banking not working in some outlets.

Preparedness? That's hysterical! I just came back from the house my mother and I built on the island across from me (twenty years ago), which I rent for dirt cheap. They are a young couple (soyboy) who are building their own house and farmette. The are from Califorlornia. They have NO idea about living off-grid I had to go over and reinstall the six Battleborn batteries he ruined abusing the solar power system. They were in Panama City............get this: Having a baby! When I booted up the solar system, ALL the ceiling fans came on and four lights. The fridge was plugged in to an extension cord because the outlet tripped from using a 1,700 watt "airfryer" on the same outlet. He did not know how to reset it Fried all my $900 a piece batteries, took me two and a half weeks to charge and balance them at my house. The place was a pig stye. No separating of trash, burnable, non-burnable and compost. They use water and electricity like they were in LA.
I could go on, but I am still too angry to continue to rant. They are in for a RUDE awakening if they want to live off-grid!
Suffice to say, people have no idea what they are in for when the SHTF. There will be blood in the streets!
I am going to sell the place, CHEAP, to a couple from Canada who "need a place NOW to prepare for the Great Reset."

I'd guess they're NOT getting their deposit back.

oldcynic off-grid is an option for some people, others wouldn't survive off-grid. I heard from a builder a few years ago that he had been asked to remove the solar panels from a house because we don't get enough sun in the UK to provide the amount of energy that the householder requires to run his home. Preparedness isn't just about individuals. My point was that we require a lot more emergency workers. In the UK, firemen are being taught how to put out a fire of an EV car, how to pick them up and put them in a tank of water. Makes you wonder how or whether they're being trained to do that with a bus etc.

I wanted to simply reply to Daj about the deposit. All I see is QUOTE which includes all. Anyhow, I did not charge them any security deposit. As I said, the rent is dirt cheap, HE is supposed to maintain the place.

Yes, that happened to me too which is why I began a new post to you. Maybe Munchaab could look at that when he gets time. I'm off to bed to read more of the fascinating book that I'm reading on oxalates.

OldCynic, I dunno what might be happening when you're trying to post. Try the clearing cache routine on your browser. Hang in there ~ very soon we should be unveiling a restored version of BTF on the MyBB software ~ it has been a hard slog through digital detritus but with the help of a forum friend, we've been putting lipstick on the old pig.

I'm more inclined to keep gas for chainsaws, etc..

Thanks, it's just getting accustomed to this set-up. I see REPLY at the end of each thread and QUOTE within each. I thought I would drag the whole conversation if I clicked QUOTE. Anyhow, my system clears the cache every time I shut-down. It's just me. I'm not my normal "pleasant mood" after struggling with my mother's house that has been trashed. This, too shall pass.

So I guess I qualify as a nutty prepper. We have 24 months of food. I won't talk ammo. The big issue is water. I have 200 gallons of purified water, which is not near enough in a full grid down situation. We live near a river but that water would have to be strained, and boiled and re strained. Fuel is also an issue. If engines are still in running order.

Get a Berkey Black ~ and plenty of filters for drinking/potable water. theberkey.com/pages/berkey-water-filterstheberkey.com/products/berkey-light-water-filter( eBay may be cheaper.)

I have food for at least a year, about 50 cases of water 48 bottles each. Several gallon jugs of water for cooking, a Berkey and several filter straws as well as chlorine bleach to purify. Six months of dog food and ammo coming out you know where. Lots of batteries medical supplies, 30 large bags of charcoal and 4 propane tanks. I also keep $5000.00 cash stashed if they shut down the banks, and lots of booze for myself or for bartering
My only concern is if I have enough stamina to fight the fight. Yeah you bet I do.
