The US media is stuck on Ukraine. While atrocities are happening elsewhere. Sudan, for instance. www.theguardian.com/world/2023/jul/17/sudan-conflict-three-months-onLast week the United Nations discovered a mass grave in Sudan’s West Darfur in which 87 people were buried, prompting the UN high commissioner for Human Rights to demand a “thorough and independent investigation” into activity in the region. It is the latest troubling news to come out of the country, which has been in a state of conflict since April, when fighting broke out between rival groups. In the three months since, 3.1 million people have been displaced, thousands are thought to have been killed and even more wounded, with entire neighbourhoods destroyed. UN agencies have received credible reports of 21 incidents of conflict-related sexual violence against at least 57 women and girls – in one of the incidents as many as 20 women were reportedly raped in the same attack. There have been reports of extrajudicial killings, ethnic violence, and widespread hunger, with a former UN humanitarian coordinator describing what is happening in Sudan as having “all the signature characteristics of genocide”. Peace talks were suspended last month as both sides continued to violate ceasefires. Over the weekend, representatives for the Sudanese army reportedly returned to Saudi Arabia for peace talks, indicating that they are open to diplomatic avenues for ending the conflict, though expectations are low. |

In the UK by-elections, the three main parties won one seat each. It's often the case that the incumbent government gets a kicking this far into their term, it will be interesting to see whether they get re-elected in the general election that is anticipated to happen in May, 2024.
So Sunak lost two seats in the by-elections yesterday. ULEZ was the reason that the Tory won in Boris Johnson's seat in Uxbridge. That shows us that we could see sea change in London voting in the general election next year.

As a reminder ~ change is always a bit frustrating. It's OK. We worked very hard for a few weeks trying to make everything seem friendly and familiar ~ most everything is, but some things are a bit different. Not impossible, just a bit different. Out goal was a COST FREE forum that wasn't dependent on any one person holding the keys to the kingdom via payments. This place is free ~ but you can liken it to staying in a Motel 6 rather than a Marriott. The sheets are clean and the roof don't leak but there aren't too may extra frills. We've done a few 'How-to's' ~ you'll see them in the Gen Discussion roster ~ but most of you won't want to read thru that. There's also a few in the beginning pages of the C&B thread ~ but again ~ you're not gonna' do that. Just post your question here and SOMEONE will answer (whoever gets to it first ~ we don't stand on ceremony in here) and hopefully demonstrate the solution. Otherwise ~ just post a linky ~ we'll get the idea.  |

Can someone please explain the "shoutbox"? And is this a temporary stay DaJavoo , or were we evicted at the old address? The shoutbox is a quickie way to post something ~ just a one-liner or two. It's visible on every page ~ keeps folks from having to slog thru the forum. Not sure if we were evicted ~ we had another month or so on the paid account ~ but we cannot access the account guts, so we're thinkin' this will be our new home. Fortunately, we had prepared for such an event.  It'll take a short while, but soon, we'll all begin to feel more at ease ~ some features we may be able to replicate ~ others may be lost forever ~ regardless, we're all together and that's what counts. |

I’m glad we have this option. Here’s a proud grandpa moment from yesterday with my 8yo grandson. We were playing ‘I spy something <pick a color>’ while riding in the truck. I said ‘I spy something…invisible’. It blew his mind. The correct answer is AIR. Now he can amaze his friends. |
